The Trust for Heisgeir / Friends of the Schoolhouse was formed in 2004 with the aim of preserving the old Schoolhouse on Ceann Ear and continuing its usefulness to fishermen and grazings.

From 2004 – 2007, ambitious and energetic workparties of local volunteers and tradesmen rescued the old Schoolhouse. In week-long stays – sometimes with as many as 16 people – we replaced all windows and front door, stripped and reslated the schoolhouse roof, repaired and reroofed the Mission Hall and the toilet block, began repointing of the stonework, and renovated the interior while maintaining its historic features and graffiti. We also fed ravenous workers with five meals a day, while hauling water from the loch and planting potatoes.

The videos document these first summers. (and our cookbook tells how we did it.)
