DUALCHAS – ERFSKIP – HERITAGE

An international collaboration

Exhibition

31 July – 01 September 2023

10am – 3pm, Monday – Friday

Activity Room, Ceann na h-Àirigh, Grimsay

The collection of fisherman sweaters that forms the core of this travelling exhibition was created and then shown in Fryslân, Netherlands in 2021. New material is being added to the exhibition at each of the hosting venues – an exchange of unsolicited gifts between communities that celebrate our shared heritage and culture.

Our contribution to the exhibition is CLIATH / SHOAL – a shoal of Eriskay-patterned knitted fish that will swim above the collections, each bearing a traditional motif that features on Eriskay ganseys.

The exhibition includes archival footage from the Cinema Sgìre project, a 45 minute compilation showing wool-working traditions captured on film across the Outer Hebrides in the 1970s, screening 1-3pm daily.
